Animal House Facility

The animal house facility has been architected with 5 animal rooms, clean and return corridor concept, dedicated floors for experimentation and breeding. Air shower, UV pass box at the entry to the clean area and huge horizontal autoclave for sterilization of material are available along with other regular instruments in the animal house. It houses different species and strains of small laboratory animals like rats, mice, rabbits and guinea pigs depending on the studies that are being carried out at any point of time. 12 hours dark and 12 hours light cycle maintained through automated light timers.

The animal holding rooms in ATS constructed with clean panels and epoxy coated floors. Animal houses were designed with HVAC systems to maintain the environmental conditions uniformly as per the requirements of regulatory and animal welfare authorities. Separate quarantine and rehabilitation rooms maintained in the animal house facility to minimize cross contamination. Adequate bedding substrate, balanced diet, water will be provided to the animals.

The ultimate aim of veterinarian is to promote the humane care and treatment of animals used in experiments. Animals were well cared by personal having adequate education, training and qualification in basic principles of laboratory animal science to help assure high quality science and animal well-being.

In ATS, Animal usage is approved and observed by an Institutional Animal Ethics Committee (IAEC) as per CPCSEA guidelines. The principles of 3Rs (Reduce, Refine, Replace) are practiced for animal welfare.

Health monitoring programmes are carried out (i.e., designing, sampling, monitoring, reporting and interpreting) to improve knowledge about the microbiological quality of animals used in research and to meet scientific, legal and welfare requirements.

ATS will ensure animal welfare by following the best husbandry practices, expertise knowledge in providing an array of services towards the healthy nourishment.
